I go to watch ESPN on my Roku. After selecting an event I am asked to activate on a computer or mobile device. I do so and my mobile device says activation successful but the roku screen never changes / allows me to watch ESPN. This just started a couple weeks ago. I have removed app, rebooted, and tried again.
ESPN had issues for the semifinal NCAA games. However, the firestick has an advantage over the Roku and mobile devices so far in my experience that it allows you to watch ESPN3 tape replays. You still cannot watch live ESPN, ESPN2 or ESPNU without a cable login but you can watch the ESPN3. The WatchESPN feature is free to customers whose television service meets the requirements. Users can access the site on their computer, Xbox 360, Roku TV or Apple TV using very similar steps. Each service provider will have a different code that customers are given in order to enter an activation code provided by WatchESPN to register their.
The 2014 FIFA World Cup starts this week on June 12th and you can tune in live using your Amazon Fire TV. We’ve uncovered three different ways you can stream all the action. Each method has its pros and cons, so read on to figure out which will work best for your specific circumstances.
Method 1: WatchESPN App
This is the best way to watch the World Cup on the Fire TV. The WatchESPN app for the Fire TV will be streaming all 64 games as ESPN has exclusive rights to air the World Cup in the US. While the app itself is free, you unfortunately cannot use it unless you have an active cable subscription with one of the 14 participating cable providers. If you do not have such a subscription, all hope is not lost. The method by witch to “activate” the app can work in your favor if you have a friend or relative with a cable subscription. When the app is fist launched, it will display an activation code. This activation code needs to be entered at http://es.pn/firetv along with the login & password of the cable subscribers cable account. Since you never have to login within the app itself, you can give your WatchESPN activation code to a friend with a cable subscription and they can activate the app for you without ever having to share their login credentials with you.
Method 2: ITV Player App
ITV is a TV network in the United Kingdom that will be streaming the World Cup live through their Android App. The app is not available in the Amazon Appstore, however it can be sideloaded on the Fire TV. You can download the app using the APK Downloader. Since the app is not optimized for the Fire TV, you will have to use a mouse plugged into the USB port on the back of the Fire TV to use the app. However, the app will detect if you are not in the UK and block the stream so you will have to use a redirecting service to trick the app into thinking you are connecting from the UK. UnoDNS is one such service and is offering 40 day extended free access specifically to help people watch the World Cup. Simply sign up for the free service and visit their devices page to get the DNS values that you need to enter into your Fire TV’s network settings.
Method 3: Univision Deportes App
Univision, an American Spanish language TV network, will be streaming the World Cup live via their Univision Deportes Android app. Like the ITV Player app, this app is also not available in the Amazon Appstore, but it too can be sideloaded by downloading the APK file using the APK Downloader. The app can be controlled with the Fire TV remote, but it appears warped. That’s fine, however, because once you open a video stream in fullscreen, the aspect ratio is corrected and the video is not warped. There is one catch, and it’s a big one. Univision will only be streaming the first 56 games for free. The last 8 games, which encompasses the quarterfinals, semifinals, third place game, and finals, can only be streamed via the Univision app if you have an active cable subscription.
Update
6/13 @ 7:28amA new free app, Afro Sports, has just been released today for the Fire TV. It lists “Live soccer games” as one of its features. We haven’t tried it ourselves yet to see if it streams the World Cup games, but it’s worth a try if the other three options above don’t work out for you.

https://ameblo.jp/tioremetel1978/entry-12632421541.html. In the last few years, many people have dropped cable and instead have begun to stream their favorite channels on devices like Roku. Such is the case with the most popular sports channel, ESPN. For that reason, we’ve put together this guide to show you how to watch ESPN on Roku streaming players very easily and even free.
fuboTV: ESPN Networks and Many More Sports Networks
fuboTV is a channel available on Roku free for 7 days. The channel is essentially a full cable TV replacement, offering ESPN’s slate of networks ranging from the flagship network to ESPN News. When you sign up for the channel, you have a very similar experience to cable, with channel guides and the like. You even get a cloud DVR so you can record ESPN programming.
After the free 7-day trial, fuboTV charges a monthly fee starting at $49.99. However, unlike cable, you can cancel this channel whenever you want – there’s no contract.
How do you get this on your Roku? Simple, first go here and sign up for the free trial. Once you’re done with that, search fuboTV in the streaming channels section of you Roku. Add the channel and log in with your credentials. Then you’re ready to watch! Here’s more info on adding fuboTV to Roku devices.

Can You Watch ESPN on Roku for Free?
The methods mentioned above for streaming ESPN on Roku all offer free trials. That means you can watch ESPN free during the trial period for each service you try. However, after that, you must pay the monthly subscription fee if you want to maintain access to ESPN programming.
The only other legal way to watch ESPN free on Roku is the WatchESPN Roku channel. This is ESPN’s official app. However, “free” isn’t exactly what you’d expect. While you don’t have to actually pay for the WatchESPN app, you do have to have a valid provider-login to gain access to programming.
In other words, you must use credentials from a service like one mentioned above, or from your cable subscription.
Now, some people share logins with their friends and family to access the WatchESPN app for free. However, this may vioalte terms of service and is generally frowned upon.
